Another hike in the books for the Troop 2319 #philmont2021prep crew.

Mr. Hamaker & Mr. Akers lead a really great group of excited scouts on their first ride of for the Cycling MB (Mountain Biking Edition). Looks like this MB is going to be a big hit! And what could be better than a MB that gets scouts out and together while still allowing for social distancing while riding.  Only a couple pics so far, but i’m sure there will be more to come as the group completes more of their rides.

The troop really lucked out with the great weather this past weekend. Things got a little chilly Friday night, but not too bad. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky on Sat. and it warmed up a fair amount. Most of the scouts camping this weekend chose to either work on either Leatherwork or Wood Carving and several of the scouts who completely the pre-requisites were able to get the entire MBs done! If you missed the re-requisites, check go back and check out the video links that were emailed out prior to the campout on Jan 16th, watch the videos, and complete the MB worksheets for any requirements you need to complete. Overall it was a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend with great weather and lots of fellowship time around the campfires. (Click the image below to see the full album)

Long hard training hike today with the Troop 2319 Philmont crew. 8 miles up, over, and back Kennesaw and Little Kennesaw with 35# + packs. Another prep hike in the bag! The next day, we followed this up with another 6 mile prep hike up at Red Top Mountain. What a great weekend! #2021philmontprep

At this weekend’s campout the troop went to Allatoona Aquatics Base. The temperature was good and it was sunny; perfect camping weather. In the morning on Saturday, all the first year scouts in attendance worked on the First Aid MB along with their first aide requirements for tenderfoot & second class. A big thank you to Mr. Wiggins for coming out and helping make this happen! On Saturday afternoon the scouts did a service project which was a trash cleanup of the Aquatics Base and beaches. Then after the cleanup many scouts worked on merit badges and rank advancement requirements. That there was cobbler and s’mores after dinner. — Troop Historian Gavin H. The Troop seemed to have a great time this past weekend at Foothills District Camporall! We really enjoying getting to spend the time with our Arrow of Light guests from Pack 710 and Pack 1417. Thanks for joining us this weekend! The scouts spent the morning working on first aid and fire making and finishing up a lot of partial advancements that they have accumulated over the last few months. Great work everyone! The weather was just about perfect, sunny and comfortable during the day and cold enough that we got to have a nice big fire on Saturday night. I think everyone is already looking forward to the next campout at Allatoona Aquatics Base, check your email for the sign up link! The troop had a fantastic time camping this past weekend at Woodruff Scout Camp! The weather was nearly perfect, several scouts got to get in hike around the lake, and we ended our day on Saturday with nice campfire and had an outdoor movie night. Already excited to get back up to Woodruff in a couple more weeks for Foothills District Camporall! (Click the image below for the full album)

The troop had an amazing time out at Camp Westin this weekend! You could definitely tell that EVERYONE was excited to be out and camping again. Many of our newer scouts worked on or refreshed their knowledge of first aid, fire building, and ax and knife safety. We even had a paper airplane making competition just for the fun of it!! I want to give a shot out to all the scouts who attended, you guys did an fantastic job making sure we stayed safe throughout the weekend. It definitely isn’t fun having to wear a mask nearly 24/7, especially when its that hot out. Good job pushing through and staying safe! We ended out outing with our usual Thorns & Roses. Several scouts had thorns that it was so hot and humid, but at the end, we all had a little chuckle when the latest addition to our scouting family (a family who recently moved here from Florida) had a rose that the weather was the perfect temperature and not too muggy! Just goes to show that a lot of things that seem unpleasant really aren’t that bad when you look at the bigger picture. (Click the collage below to see the full photo album)

This weekend Troop 2319 went on a campout to see the National Infantry Museum near Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. The scouts got to tour the museum and learn about the history of our nation’s Army. We spent hours their learning about the history of tanks, wars, the Medal of Honor, and so much more! After the Museum we returned to our campsite and despite the cold the scouts still had fun playing games for the rest of the day. We finished up Saturday night with a cozy campfire. Sunday morning, we got our gear packed up and our Chaplin’s Aide, Ben M., held a Scout’s own service before we got on the road for the long drive home. (Don’t forget to click the collage below to see the full album of photos as there were a LOT) — Gavin H. Troop 2319 had a great time over the weekend at our annual lockin at Escalade Climbing Gym! The scouts had fun and got to climb into the early morning hours. Even after the climbing was done, nearly all of the scouts continue playing games, and having fun for several more hours. Click the collage below to see the full album of photos for the lockin!

The Troop had an amazing time this weekend at Scoutland Scout Camp and had the opportunity to visit Crisson Gold Mine. Crisson Gold Mine was an open pit gold mine and now serves to educate the public about the gold mining process. We got to see tons of different types of mining including a giant rock crusher in action. They even let every scout hold a jar with $15,000 in gold in it! We got to pan for gold and even for gems. When we got back to Scoutland, we explored and played around the camp until late afternoon and when we got back to the campsite, the adults had made a huge fire for everyone to sit and enjoy the evening around! This weekend at Camporall, Webelos and AOL scouts from Pack 1714 joined us for a great time. We arrived on Friday night and setup camp while it was wet and dark. On Saturday we joined a scavenger hunt with Colonel Tom and our visiting scouts. We scurried around camp to get pictures to prove everything we found on the list. The afternoon consisted of Ultimate Frisbee, board games, manhunt and other games. Our campfire turned into an evening show due to the rain. The troop cheered as we won the scavenger hunt with a whopping 216 points. After the evening program we headed back to the campsite and played board games under the pavilion because of the rain. On Sunday morning we went to the Scout’s own service to remind us of our faith. Then we packed up and headed home. Click the collage below to see all the great photos from this past weekend! Gavin H.
