Pensacola Trip

Several families headed down to Pensacola earlier this week for what proved to be an interesting trip.  The trip was a little bit chaotic at times with plan changing rapidly dependent on weather and policy changes, but everyone was really flexible and it all worked out in the end. Scouts got to spend a good amount of time at the beach on Wednesday and Thursday, spent the morning on Thursday exploring Historic Fort Pickens, and even squeeze in a campfire. Friday was a bit more interesting, with extremely gusting winds in the morning (the troop might need a new white canopy) and intermittent rain, the group opted to head into town and go to a couple escape rooms! However with extremely high winds, hail, and rain forecast for early hours Saturday morning, we ended up cutting the trip a little short and bugging out late Friday night. Even with last minute changes, I think everyone had a good time, and getting to play at the beach in the sun on a scout trip was a nice change of pace.

Troop Training Campout

The troop had an absolutely amazing time at the March Troop Training Campout! We had tons of scouts earn their Firem’n Chits and Totin’ Chips that we ran out of cards! Scouts also had lots of time to work on knots, fire making, cooking, and general scout skills! But we didn’t work all day, in the afternoon, the troop Kubb sets were again very busy. The weather was just about perfect as the rain held out all day Saturday and just long enough for the troop to depart Sunday morning. Overall, I don’t think we could have asked for a better weekend. 2021: Philmont Advisor Skills School

While the bulk of the troop was up at Woodruff Scout Camp launching rockets, a couple of our leaders Steve C. & Greg L. were out at Philmont Scout Ranch going through the Philmont Advisor Skills School program to make sure they knew everything they needed to before leading the full crew on their trek in just a couple short months. Take a look a look at the photos below to get a tease of what’s to come for the full trek! (Click the image below to see the full album)

SpaceX Troop Campout

It looks like the scouts had a great weekend at Woodruff working on the SpaceX Merit Badge. It was bit cold and rainy arriving on Friday night, but the weather cleared and was just about perfect all day Saturday. Even with such a large group, the scouts were all able to get their model rockets made in the morning and after lunch, we had a marathon launch event. Even with three launchers running and scouts firing off rockets every few minutes, with scouts being able to launch their rockets up to four times (assuming the rockets survived that long) we were still launching for a couple of hours! It says a lot that all the scouts got to watch and launch so many rockets that attention started to waver towards the end of the launch cadence. We rounded out the afternoon with multiple rounds of Kubb, a game that by the looks of it, is going to quickly become a favorite of the troop. Saturday finished out with scouts cooking up some delicious dinners and more importantly desserts! Even with the long day Saturday, scouts were efficient and helpful Sunday morning not only getting their own gear packed, but all the troop gear as well as policing the campsites. Couldn’t ask for a better weekend. (click the image below for the full album)

Cycling MB – Day 1

Mr. Hamaker & Mr. Akers lead a really great group of excited scouts on their first ride of for the Cycling MB (Mountain Biking Edition). Looks like this MB is going to be a big hit! And what could be better than a MB that gets scouts out and together while still allowing for social distancing while riding.  Only a couple pics so far, but i’m sure there will be more to come as the group completes more of their rides.

Handicraft Merit Badge Campout

The troop really lucked out with the great weather this past weekend. Things got a little chilly Friday night, but not too bad. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky on Sat. and it warmed up a fair amount. Most of the scouts camping this weekend chose to either work on either Leatherwork or Wood Carving and several of the scouts who completely the pre-requisites were able to get the entire MBs done! If you missed the re-requisites, check go back and check out the video links that were emailed out prior to the campout on Jan 16th, watch the videos, and complete the MB worksheets for any requirements you need to complete. Overall it was a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend with great weather and lots of fellowship time around the campfires. (Click the image below to see the full album)

November Campout Recap

At this weekend’s campout the troop went to Allatoona Aquatics Base. The temperature was good and it was sunny; perfect camping weather. In the morning on Saturday, all the first year scouts in attendance worked on the First Aid MB along with their first aide requirements for tenderfoot & second class. A big thank you to Mr. Wiggins for coming out and helping make this happen! On Saturday afternoon the scouts did a service project which was a trash cleanup of the Aquatics Base and beaches. Then after the cleanup many scouts worked on merit badges and rank advancement requirements. That there was cobbler and s’mores after dinner. — Troop Historian Gavin H. 2020 Foothills District Camporall

The Troop seemed to have a great time this past weekend at Foothills District Camporall! We really enjoying getting to spend the time with our Arrow of Light guests from Pack 710 and Pack 1417. Thanks for joining us this weekend! The scouts spent the morning working on first aid and fire making and finishing up a lot of partial advancements that they have accumulated over the last few months. Great work everyone! The weather was just about perfect, sunny and comfortable during the day and cold enough that we got to have a nice big fire on Saturday night. I think everyone is already looking forward to the next campout at Allatoona Aquatics Base, check your email for the sign up link!
